Overcoming a Learning Challenge Through Growth and Organization

Overcoming a Learning Challenge

Starting university was a major transition for me. One learning challenge I faced was managing multiple assignments while keeping up with heavy readings and class expectations. In high school, I was more dependent on teacher guidance, so adapting to independent learning was difficult at first. I often felt overwhelmed and struggled with procrastination.

One course concept that helped me understand this experience was self-regulation. Self-regulation involves managing time, setting goals, and monitoring progress. I realized that my difficulty was not a lack of ability, but a need for stronger learning strategies. According to  Verywell Mind’s article on self-regulation, self-regulation helps learners stay focused and motivated when facing challenges.

To improve, I started creating weekly schedules and breaking assignments into smaller tasks. I also used active learning techniques such as rewriting notes in my own words and reviewing material regularly instead of cramming. Another important concept I learned was having a growth mindset, which means believing that skills can improve through effort and practice. This helped me become more confident and less afraid of making mistakes.

Over time, these strategies improved both my academic performance and confidence. This experience taught me that learning challenges are a normal part of personal growth. With patience, reflection, and effective strategies, challenges can become opportunities to develop resilience and independence.
